ACNE TREATMENTS
What causes my zits, anyway?
The first thing you should learn about acne is, pimples are not caused by food. Of course if you were to rub pudding and cheetos all over you face you might actually get a zit. Seriously though, the causes of acne are many:
- Family History of Acne
-
Greasy/oily cosmetic or hair products containing vegetable or animal fats
- Hormonal changes associated with adolescence
- Pregnancy
- Menstruation "Acne tends to flare up 2 to 7 days before menstruation begins"
- Certain medications
- Environmental irritants
- Pollutants
- Sweating
- Friction
- High levels of humidity
- Squeezing or Popping
There have been some acne studies conducted lately that suggest that stress and sun exposure can cause or aggravate existing acne. There are many factors involved in this acne study...one suggests that - the use of oily sunscreens may cause acne. Others report experiencing improvement in their skinwhen they are exposured to the sun. Once again, everyone is different.
Diagnosis:: Acne
Acne... its characteristic appearance is not difficult to diagnose. You got red oozing bumps on your face...you got acne. How it makes you feel is also easy to diagnose.
A "General Practitioner"can treat most mild to moderate forms of acne. People with more severe cases of acne however, are often referred to a "dermatologist" or a skin disease specialist. The practitioner will take a complete medical history that includes questions about skin care, cosmetic use; factors that trigger flare-ups; medication use; occupational and environmental exposures; and prior treatment.
While you are there, they will also examine your face, chest, back, and other areas for blemishes, lesions, and scars. Certain factors, including the size of the blemishes and whether or not they are inflamed, help a practitioner determine the most appropriate treatment.
Acne Treatment
The basic principle of skin care is to wash the affected area no more than one to two times per day with a mild, nondrying soap. Overwashing, and the use of harsh medical soaps can actually make the condition worse. Practitioners will often recommend topical medications as their first choice for treating acne (generally either OXY-10 or a class of drugs known as retinoids).
"Retinoids" are designed to wear away the top layer of skin, as well as to reduce abnormal clumping of cells in the follicles, oil and bacteria production, and inflammation. More research is needed to investigate the safety and effectiveness of alternative remedies for acne, and they are happening every day.
There is one new medicine that is showing great results in a clinical trial. It is called Acnezine. We have located a discount link for you to get two free bottles... thanks for reading, Maggie Reynolds.
